Lowensteins inaugurate prizes for tertiary school art students

As part of our continued commitment to the arts, Lowensteins was recently involved in the awarding of prizes as an extension of our philanthropic activities to the tertiary education sector over the next twelve months. We have awarded two prizes, one to Monash University Faculty of Arts and Design, announced on 18 November 2016, and the second to the Victorian College of the Arts, University of Melbourne announced on 21 November 2016. Amalia Gray Lindo is the winner of the Monash University prize. We had great pleasure in personally presenting the award to her for her exceptional work, as judged by the faculty teaching staff. The prize is given to the outstanding graduate for the final year of the Bachelor degree and involves a cash prize, a tour of our collection and a free consultation to discuss the business and tax aspects of a professional artist’s practice. We see these prizes as an important contribution to the arts and they mark a contrast to previous mid-career prizes that we have sponsored in the past. It emphasises the importance that Lowensteins place on the next generation of artists and their contribution to the cultural fabric of Melbourne and the nation more broadly.
